Dismissed DTL workers call for Govt to intervene

The eleven dismissed workers from the Demerara Timbers Limited (DTL) along with officials of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) earlier today staged another picketing exercise, this time outside of the Ministry of the Presidency, calling on the Government to intervene in an effort to have their dismissals rescinded.

dtlThe workers were handed dismissal letters after taking part in a peaceful picketing exercise outside the Company’s Head Office on October 03, 2016 calling on DTL to engage in “good faith” bargaining.

In seeking an amicable solution, the union has sought the conciliatory services of the Ministry of Social Protection to address the dispute.

Attempts to this end by the Ministry, however, have been strongly rebuffed by the Company as it bluntly refused to attend any meeting summoned by the Ministry to address the matter.
