Diamond residents remanded on burglary charges

IMG-20151228-WA0003[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two men who hail from Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), were remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after they were charged with burglary.

Twenty – four – year old Denzil Mathias known as ‘Benzu’, a mason of Lot 1270 Block X Diamond New Scheme, EBD and Mark Nurse, 18, of Lot 6 Block X Diamond New Scheme, both denied the allegation.

The court heard that on December 23, 2015 at Lot 1248 Block X Diamond New Scheme, EBD they broke and entered into the dwelling house of Asheila Persaud and stole two laptops valued $215,000, a quantity of gold valued $410,000, a quantity of clothing valued $60,000 and a Play Station and games valued at $60,000 among other items, all to a total value of $1.2M.

Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick objected to bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. The two were remanded and the matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for January 18, 2016.
