Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Dawn Hasting-Williams is scheduled to be appointed to the post of Minister of Public Affairs within the Ministry of the Presidency (MOTP) at the end of August.
The President, David Granger, was quoted in the state media saying that her appointment, to what is apparently another new ministerial portfolio, was “a question of my own judgment and I have to continuously evaluate the workload of every Ministry… It’s a continuous process to ensure that government works well and we need to ensure that we put our best effort where those efforts can have an impact on Government.”
The position of Public Affairs Minister comes on the heels of the recently resuscitated portfolio of Minister of Public Service at the MOTP which was given to reshuffled Education Minister Dr Rupert Roopnaraine, who recently rescinded his resignation after being asked to do so by President.
While it currently remains unclear what responsibilities would be assigned to the post of Public Affairs Minister, at the Ministry of Communities Hasting-Williams had responsibility for water.
The President also said Hasting-Williams’ ascension to Minister of Public Affairs is a continuation of a balancing process to strengthen the management of the MOTP.
