Cuban National jailed for fake passport, overstaying


DSC05935[] – A Cuban national was today sentenced to 12 months imprisonment along with $30,000 fine by Magistrate Faith McGusty after he pleaded guilty to uttering forged documents and overstaying permitted time.

The particulars of the case state that on Saturday, December 28 at Moleson Creek, Corentyne Berbice; with intent to defraud he uttered a forged document to Immigration Officer, John Brown, a United Kingdom Great Britain passport number 307651058 in favor of himself, knowing same to be forged.

Police Prosecutor, Renetta Bentham told the Court that the defendant is a Cuban national and is a holder of passport number 10140833. Bentham said he entered Guyana on November 10 and was granted a period of one month stay, but on the day in question he went to Moleson Creek to extend his stay in Guyana and uttered the forged passport to the Immigration Officer.
