[www.inewsguyana.com] – Courts Furniture Store on Friday launched their annual 10k road race which is scheduled for September 28.

The store that goes with the motto “Bringing value home” will hand out $1.7 million dollars in cash and prizes as well as race logistics.

President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) is thankful that Courts continue to play a part in sport.

“Courts has done it again, sticking to their motto bringing value home, we have been attracting persons outside of Guyana to be a part of the race and it’s is nice to see Courts continuing with their effort n sport as we have as an annual event on our calendar,” Hutson said.

Marketing Manager of Court, Pernell Cummings related his aspirations for the fourth edition of the event.

The Courts 10k has been growing and we’re hoping that this year is the biggest and we want it to be the best.

“We are looking forward to seeing Guyana’s best athletes performing, it’s about keeping Guyana fit as this month is our birthday month,” Cummings stated.

With safety for the athletes being an issue with 10k events, Hutson elaborated on some of the measure the AAG has taken to ensure a safe race for the athletes.

“We have written to the Commissioner of Police highlighting the race and we hope that they come out and ensure the route is safe we can only depend on what they do.

“What we have also done is to ensure some of our marshals come out with some red flags to alert the motorists on the road of the race, so we can almost guarantee full safety this year,” Hutson noted.

Meanwhile the race is set start from 06:00hrs on September 28 along with a three kilometers road race for Courts staff members.

Registration for the event will close on September 26 as athletes can register at the Guyana Olympic Association in Kingston.
