Corentyne pensioner found dead in hammock

The lifeless body of a Corentyne pensioner was on Saturday found in a hammock in his Number 69 Village Squatting Area, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) home. The dead man has been identified as 82-year-old Balraj.

Balraj lived alone and was last seen entering his home at about 15:00h on Friday. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

The Police stated that the body was discovered by a neighbour who usually takes breakfast for him. On the day in question, the neighbour called out to the man but there were no answers.

He then walked into the man’s home to check on him and it was then that his body was discovered in the hammock. An alarm was raised and the Police were summoned.

There were no visible marks of violence about the man’s body. It was taken to Anthony’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem.
