Corentyne mason remanded to prison for murder at ‘Back to School’ party

A 44-year-old mason was, earlier today (Wednesday), remanded to prison when he appeared at the Reliance Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Renita Singh to answer to a murder charge.

Ivor Thom of Williamsburg, Corentyne, Berbice was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on August 27 2017 at Williamsburg, he stabbed 30-year-old Vishram Mohabir, resulting in his death.

The matter was transferred to the Albion Magistrate Court and he is expected to reappear on September 12 2017.

It was previously reported that on the evening of August 27, Thom attended a “Back to School” party where he claims he was attacked by Mohabir, and his [Mohabir’s] teen brother.

As such, the altercation resulted in the mason stabbing the duo numerous times. The teen received injuries to his hand while the now deceased was stabbed twice to his neck.

Mohabir was pronounced dead at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
