Corentyne family terrorized in home invasion, father and son injured

Two persons are now hospitalized after armed bandits broke into a home at Cromarty village, East Berbice-Corentyne, on Tuesday evening.

Those physically injured are Dhirha Kumar, 52, and his 22-year-old son Balram Kumar who was reportedly shot in his face.

According to reports reaching this publication at about 18:00h three men; one masked and  carrying a gun and a cutlass entered a grocery store which Kumar and his son operate at their residence.

According to his wife Asha, at the time she was preparing milk for the family when she heard her husband screaming.

The woman said when she went to investigate she saw a man with a mask.

“He get a red mask covering he face an so I run in the back yard and hide.”

According to the housewife, she heard her husband stating that he was going to give them all the money that he had.

The bandits were given $200,000 in cash along with an additional $80,000 being the day’s sales.

“And they still beating he telling he that they want more money. They had them lying on the floor and stamp them in their head. They ask for gold and my son tell them that we don’t have gold… They take away his silver band that he had on his hand… Then they shoot my son in his face with the gun.”

The woman said that the bandits then went to the upper flat where they ransacked the house.

She did not say weather anything was taken from the upper flat.

This publication was informed that police have since arrested one person as investigations continue.
