[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Police Office of Professional Responsibility has completed investigations into the matter involving Asif Rahim of Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara, in which he was allegedly assaulted by police ranks while in custody.

A police report noted that the file was submitted to the Chairman of the Police Complaints Authority for his review and advice.

Rahim, a fisherman and father of four children, died on Thursday, November 27 at his home. He was buried yesterday, after a post mortem examination found that he died from multiple injuries on his body.

Rahim was allegedly beaten by police officers attached to the Leonora Police Station on Saturday November 22.

The PME found that Rahim’s jaw was broken and there was a rupture in his throat and that he received severe injuries to his chest which resulted in massive blood clot in his body.

Initially, the Police Force had alleged that Rahim was beaten by another prisoner while in custody at the station, however, two ranks are reportedly under close arrest as prior to his death, Rahim had informed his wife and relatives that he was beaten by the Police, whom he could have identified.

  1. The police may need a drastic revamp.
Their purpose is to uphold the law and to ‘serve and protect’!
There may be some who is doing the opposite.
With friends like these, we sure do not need any enemies.
I am sure, when the PNC Government were asking to ‘make the country ungovernable, the police and security people were the last on their mind to do the job!
