[www.inewsguyana.com] – The police are conducting investigations into the murder of 20 – year – old Godfrey Jaggroo of Bellevue, West Bank Demerara which occurred at about 19:00hrs on Wednesday (December 18) at Bellevue.

According to the police, initial investigations revealed that Jaggroo was involved in an argument with his mother during which a man, who resides next door and operates an off license liquor store, intervened and assaulted him with a piece of wood.

Police further stated that Jaggroo was on his way to the Wales Police Station to make a report when he was confronted by three men, one of whom is a licensed firearm holder and was at the liquor store, during which he was shot to his back with a shotgun.

Jaggroo was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

However, iNews has learned that among the three men who are in police custody assisting with investigations is the father of a Community Police Officer who is accused of doing the shooting and has since gone into hiding.

It is believed that the Officer who was identified as Harry Rajpaat along with the two other men (yet to be identified) tried to apprehend Jaggroo, who was behaving in a threatening manner when he decided to flee.

It was during this encounter that he was shot to his back by the community police officer. One resident claimed that the Community Police Officer is not a license firearm holder but is reported to have done the shooting.

The actual licensed firearm holder is also believed to be one of the persons in police custody. iNews was informed that the other two men are claiming that it was the licensed firearm holder who did the shooting while he is telling a counter story.
