Injured Kwame McCoy.

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Head of the Commonwealth Observer Team Kate Wilkinson has reacted to the recent reports of assault to People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Candidate Kwame McCoy.

According to reports in local and social media, McCoy was brutally assaulted by supporters of a major political Party and had to be taken to local hospital to undergo surgery.

Then on May 12, photos surfaced of McCoy in a hospital bed with several bruises and what appeared to be stitches on his lip.

“I saw the coverage on television and I saw the other media reports but I did not see personally any personal or other physical injury,” Wilkinson told a news conference on May 13.

The reports surrounding the incident with McCoy seem disturbing after he was “rescued” by the Presidential Candidate of the APNU+AFC David Granger.

Reports indicate Granger was forced to run to the aid of McCoy who was blocked from exiting the polling station at St Sidewell Primary School at Hadfield &Vlissengen Road Georgetown.

This is after hundreds of the coalition’s supporters got word that McCoy was allegedly trying to steal a ballot box from that polling station.

It was only after Brigadier Granger arrived on the scene and appealed to his supporters to allow McCoy to leave safely that some amount of calm started to prevail since the police were unable to disperse of the large crowd.

Granger stood behind a police vehicle and spoke to his supporters after which a human chain was made to safely allow McCoy to exit the polling station into the police vehicle, which drove him to safety without any injuries.

  1. PPP/C was suppose to be “THE BIGGER MAN” and let go of Burnhams’ one minded way of development for our country but no! everyone wants revenge…. Now! we’re all going to see (ppp/c) fall on their asses. Burnham isn’t here to reap what he sowed but the ppp/c party are! And i am not saying this at a race point of view but a political stand point. After all it is only year one. I’m looking forward to see changes probably by year 2. APNU+AFC please make me proud to be Guyanese!

  2. Ray, PPP was up to their scampish ness again, if you examined the 2 photos you will see that the one in the hospital was old, he was hospitalise after an accident and that was used to create this nonsense, check out his head, he was bald at the poll station and then his hair grew within a few hrs!! Lol

  3. Lowenfield and Dr. Surajballi has more questions for the people than answers, they both look guilty like the PPP, they are keeping more press conference more than giving results and they still can’t answer the nations questions. But i want them to know the good Lord is watching them and no amount of money can make them outlived the end of time, they both have children, grandchildren and other family who have to live in this country and they all will suffer the faith of this Government. I have one question for lowenfield and surajballi . Do you think any amount of money or bribery can redeem your children, grandchildren and other family? The tears and blood of the nation will be on your hands if you rob us of an accurate and honest count of our votes all because you want to fulfill your selfish desires. And how long will that money last you anyways. Therefore, i plead with Gecom to please do the right thing for the sake of your children and grandchildren and other future generation of this country. Remember when you are gone they still have to live on, do not let the PPP destroy your generations future. Pleaseeeeessssssssssssssssss!!!!!

  4. they should carry you somewhere and beat your ass, y’all full of tihs
spell that back to front. the world saw him lead to safety, if he can prove otherwise lets see it! *in my Clinton Urling voice** Go rent Gone Girl from the DVD club.

  5. The PPP is claiming that they are leading way in front of the APNU+AFC, yet still they are asking for recount, you want me to tell you want I think,I beleive the PPP has already lost the election and they are buying time to sell the Guyanese votes to Gecom, just like how the buy our votes from Gocool Budoo the last election.

  6. I am neutral, but I say give them other boys a chance 2 screw up like Burnham, only then they will come 2 there senses, when they can’t get rice flour sugar dhal etc..

  7. APNU +AFC campaigned under the theme time for change and national unity. If that what those who voted for the APNU +AFC voted for and no one from that camp uttered a single word of condemnation then the flight to rejoin families overseas continues with greater urgency. Back to the old days of racial and political discrimination

  8. I live in Canada most of my life move back to Guyana 2009 I have witness some shit but this is one of the top ten. I wonder what hospital he is in. He looks pretty comfortable, I know for a fact Georgetown public Hospital doesn’t have nice bed like that. If he is in private hospital wonder who is paying his bills? Oh I forget they get only the best Health Care. Surprise PPP/C did not fly him to New York on a private jet for treatment let the tax payers pick up the tab. These people have no shame.

  9. Did anyone saw Kwame leaving the police vehicle unharmed was there any videos of him being safely escorted to his home or a place of safety for all we know they took him somewhere where there’ s no cameras and beat him up

  10. Those of us residing overseas are patiently waiting to hear the official results so we as well as those in Guyana can move on with our lives. Guyana is a beautiful country; lets keep it that way by having a Government that is by and for the people.

  11. You would be a fool to think that an intelligent woman wouldn’t weigh the facts before making a statement. we all saw the video where McCoy was taken away from that area scratch free. stop being a blind ass and wake up!!

  12. Im glad you know everything can’t be caught on camera. We all saw on camera that Mr Granger secured the safe exit of Kwame. What the camera did not catch was the low down tactics used to inflict self injury after the fact. We all saw that man/individual walk out strong and full of pomp that the outgoing administration allowed him to develop by ignoring all of the blatant crimes they have turned a blind eye on.

  13. I think that the PPP/C is so affraid of loosing the election that there making it look as though the APNU+AFC is victimizing them. But when its all said and done PPP/C Ya lie

  14. he probably went to one of those unfinished sections at the unfinished five-star marriott hotel and deliberately taunted one of the chinese workers there just so that he would receive a good punch flush to the mouth.

this is just one of the many dirty tricks that the ppp played on the guyanese electorate to get their vote because it knows that there are gullible and naive people willing to buy this kind of dishonesty.

the ppp has long been recognized as morally and ethically bankrupt! just think of what this man tried to perpetuate here and tell me if he doesn’t deserve a couple of months in jail?

  15. what ever he got he deserved it, IF THE PPP IS GOING TO SEND THIER GOON SQUAD LEADERS AND TROUBLE MAKER, TO MAKE US UNHAPPY, WE ARE GOING TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK,,….MY COUNTRY IS FALLING APART
ENEOUGH DIVISIONS, WE NEED NEW BLOOD AND YOUNG PEOPLE TO LEAD OUR COUNTRY, TOO, MUCH CRIMES, TOO MUCH DRUGS, TOO MUCH CORRUPTIONS, MY COUNTRY WAS SUCH A PEACEFUL PLACE, ,,,,,ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,,,,, CONCERNED CITIZEN

  16. What I want to know is why the PPP/C want a recount when they have stated that they have the most votes…I doesn’t make sense at all, these are the people that have been running our country for too many years. Personally I feel this is a ploy to 1. interfere with the total reported from the ballot boxes in those regions by influencing those at Gecom in someway like they did at the last General election. The count at the polling stations were overseen by representative of each party weren’t they, if so they don’t have faith in their own Reps to have kept a close eye on the count
    2. To buy time to destroy any evidence of corruption to save their necks, and also to secure and dispense of public funds in untraceable accounts. They know what they’re up to and all this delay is giving them plenty of time to carry out their scampish ness.

The results should be announced immediately and the winning party should be installed…Janet Jagon ignored calls for recount when she took over the presidency and was not challenged, was Guyana then polititions afraid?

There are a lot of very frustrated people who want to know the results.. Many of whom went to great length to make sure they were there early to cast their vote and this is what they get in return? It is not a surprise that we will get extremely angry people the longer it takes.

It is just a joke on Gecom and their systems also on Guyana, to the outside world, we have less than a million peopl and it is taking several days to count?? Guyanese are suppose to be intelligent people on the whole but all this has shone a very dim light on us as a nation.

Please please stop messing with the Guyanese people heads!

  17. to the commonwealth observers: not everything will be caught on camera also not everything the reporters highlight, some of them scared to report the facts besides they have to make some profit on the report by telling lies.

  18. Is Granger send his supporters to beat Kwame and then he rescue him to pretend he don’t know of any attack. I saw this on the news, how come you reporters didn’t see that.

  19. Ow Kwame…yuh lie! we see yuh look good good in de picture when yuh walk out de place…how come all of a sudden you get dem injuries?!?! Ow man, yuh ent gat shame? Is suh stupit yuh think we stupit?

We gaffu gee you points fuh tekkiing “one fuh de team”…is Bheri slap yuh or wah?

  20. Jagdeo and McKoy ought to be ashamed of this. This is shameless and outrageous. President Ramotar needs to speak sternly to his people. Such a blatant act of desperation makes the PPP/C looks extremely PATHETIC!!! A very sad situation.

  21. Kwamie, Odinga Lumumba, Romel Roopnarine and Rima Rohee gat fe get real jobs now. No more free-loading on the People of Guyana.

  22. Thank you for this article clarifying this particular issue. It is so sad that they would want to pin this on the opposition. Kwame left that polling place without a scratch surrounded by the best possible human shields – David Granger and Joe Harmon. His injuries are either self inflected or Bharat got one of his boys to soundly beet that fool in their attempt to blame the opposition. Such sad and simple liars. I am so disappointed in their attempt to mislead the world.
