Commander Hicken promises tight security for Mashramani

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for the Police ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken has assured that all efforts have been placed into ensuring that the events leading up to Mashramani as well activities on the day are conducted in an atmosphere that is safe and secure.

In commenting on the security arrangements for the national event, Hicken told iNews that road users can expect added roadblocks within his division stop and search exercises and an increase in police presence within Georgetown.

He said that much work is also being put in place to ensure that there are no loopholes in the system. On the issue of what has now become the annual Jouvert Party held at the Merriman’s Mall in Georgetown, Hicken told iNews that the event was shifted to the Parade Ground.

This was done in order for the police to have better crowd control. Police ranks working on that day will be supervised by senior officers. Support is also expected to come from the force Headquarters.
