Cocaine swallower gets four years jail

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The 28 – year – old man who swallowed a number of cocaine pellets was sentenced to four years imprisonment by Magistrate Zameena Ali at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Friday, February 20.

Stephon James Watson, a Joiner of Lot 86 Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara, was also fined $30,000 after pleading guilty to the drug trafficking charge.

The Court heard that on February 16 at Ogle International Airport, East Coast Demerara, he had in his possession 850 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The unrepresented man apologized to the Court and begged for leniency. iNews had reported that on the day in question Watson was an outgoing passenger on a LIAT flight destined for Antigua when he was observed sweating profusely by ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch.

Under questioning from the ranks, he admitted to swallowing the pellets and was subsequently taken to the Hospital where he excreted some 60 pellets.
