[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Lance Corporal attached to the Georgetown Mayor and City Council was found dead this morning (Saturday, June 21), at his Sophia home.
Compton Joseph was found lying by the door to his washroom by relatives at about 05:30 hours and is believed to have committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance.
His death was confirmed by Town Clerk (ag) Carol Sooba who explained that the man was in fact being sought by the Council and Police for monies that went missing during last week from the Constable Stores.
Sooba recalled that she received a call Monday last from the Chief Constable, who related that Joseph had absconded from work. She said after several attempts to contact him were unsuccessful she [Sooba] ordered that an immediate stock check of the stores be taken.
Sooba said she learnt the Tuesday that Joseph had drank poison and was a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital. The Town Clerk told iNews during a telephone interview that she later learnt that he had discharged himself and was once again unreachable, during which time it was uncovered that several hundred thousand dollars from the Constable Stores were missing.
Sooba said the Police was notified and was helping to find and apprehend Joseph while she awaited a full and complete report from the Chief Constable, who she pointed out, is the only individual other than Joseph that has keys to the Stores.
She recalled that she had personally instructed those looking for the man to bring him to her when he was found because since she believes there is more to the story.
The Chief Constable, according to Sooba, is yet to produce the report even as she questioned why such large sums of reported ‘bail money’, for 93 persons, were being kept in the Stores.
Sooba could not say if the man [Joseph], during last night, drank another quantity of the poisonous substance. She said she intends to visit the family later today and will continue her investigation in the missing ‘bail money’.
my dad work there and say to me he had to collect over 4 million dollars when he is finish with his services there but he died before he can collect the money,but that amount was never given to him by the city council…..they rob him………..
This woman have no class. Personnel matters should not be discussed in this way especially when they are dead.
