IMAG0146[www.inewsguyana.com] –Some $15 million worth of medical equipment was gifted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) on Tuesday (September 02), by the 11th Chinese Medical Brigade currently in Guyana, complementing the local medical labour force.

This donation, which is a continuation of similar exercises over the years, comes ahead of a visit by China’s Minister of Health, who is expected in Guyana before the end of September.

Among the equipment are: an Anesthesia machine, high frequency electrical knife, embryocardia appearance, vital signs monitor machine, gynecology operations instrument sets, induced abortion operation instruments sets, microsurgery unit among others.

Speaking at a simple ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Zhang Limin recalled the long history of friendship Guyana and China enjoy, which dates back to the 1960s.

He said China has always sought to make donations to Guyana’s social and economic development, including the health sector; adding that over the years such contributions have increased.IMAG0142

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr. Bheri Ramsaran expressed the hope that the years ahead will see more Guyanese studying in China and the continued exchange that currently exist in the medical field.

He announced that the Chinese Health Minister will visit Guyana soon; even as he commended the work the current Chinese Medical Brigade and past Brigades would have done locally.

He said the products received from China have proven to be of good quality, longevity and good performance.
