The 25-year-old man who brutally raped and murdered 9-year-old Shequan Gittens in April of 2015 was on Tuesday morning sentenced to serve 23 years in prison.
Ryan Bobb Semple’s sentence was handed down by High Court Judge, Sandill Kissoon after the accused plead guilty to a lesser count of manslaughter and admitted that he sodomised and removed the boy’s genitals.
Semple was represented by Attorney Maxwell McKay, who in a plea of mitigation, said his client needs psychiatric help as no one in their right mind would commit such an offence.
INews had reported that Gittens went missing on April 01, 2015, after venturing out into the streets of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown to fly a kite.
His body was discovered several days later in a semi-nude state, floating in a canal aback Houston, East Bank Demerara.
According to information received at that time, Bobb-Semple confessed to abducting the youngster and murdering him.
The confessed killer also told police that after killing the lad, he slept with the body before mutilating it.
He had also told investigators that he dumped the body in a canal, shortly after.
