Charlestown Resident found guilty of armed robbery; jailed for 48 months

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Former employee of Cevon’s Waste Management, Seron Skeete was today sentenced to 48 months imprisonment for the offence of armed robbery.

The 33 – year – old of Broad Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, was found guilty as charged for the offence by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

The Court heard that on August 23 at Saffon Street, Georgetown, being armed with a knife, he robbed Nandkumarie Maraj of one Nokia cellular phone, one hand bag and one kitchen bowl, together valued $7,500.

The prosecution’s facts stated that on the day in question around 18:00 hrs, the Virtual Complainant (VC) was waiting on her husband, when she was confronted by Skeete.

He then placed a knife to the victim’s neck and demanded that that she hand over her valuables.

Subsequently, the VC saw the Police on patrol and quickly reported the matter after Skeete made good his escape. He was arrested and the articles were recovered.

The matter was prosecuted by Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, while Skeete was unrepresented.

The convicted man has been working with Cevon’s Waste Management for over three years.
