Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) students from seven city schools sitting examinations on Thursday, May 26 will be relocated to facilitate the float parade to mark the country’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
According to the Education Ministry, students from The Bishops’ High, St John’s College, St Rose’s High, and St Stanislaus College will write their examinations at Queen’s College. It said too that students from Central High School will be relocated to St Joseph’s High School. 
Students from Christ Church Secondary and Brickdam Secondary Schools will be relocated to Tutorial High School. Students from the Josel Education Institute will also sit their examinations at Tutorial High School.
During the week leading up to the 26th, CAPE candidates will be sitting Literature, Physics, Applied Maths, Biology, Management of Business, Environmental Science, Law, Electrical and Electronic Technology, Physical Education and Sport, Pure Maths, Agricultural Science, Food and Nutrition, Digital Media, and Building and Mechanical Engineering Drawing.
Meanwhile, CSEC candidates will be sitting Biology, Building Technology Construction, Social Studies, Principles of Business, Geography, Physical Education and Sport, and Office Administration.
A number of activities had been rolled out to mark the anniversary during the one-week period when school will be suspended.
These include the largest May 26 float parade that is the embodiment of the Republic Day parade that was postponed given the anniversary.
Also set for that day is the GTT Mega Concert slated for the National Stadium after the float parade.
Another of the grand events set for the period is the National Flag-raising ceremony at D’Urban Park as well as the Independence Jouvert, both scheduled for May 25.
From the 22nd to the 24th, other activities consisting of symposiums, book launchings, pageants and a long list of additional events have been planned.
Being one of the most anticipated and monumental events in Guyana’s history, the Government has gone all out in ensuring that this indeed leaves an imprint on the minds of those who are lucky enough to be part of the celebrations.
Over the past few weeks, activities, promotions and special packages leading up to the anniversary have been launched.
Corporate support for these activities has been flowing in, since the beginning of the year, from both local and international sponsors.
The country is expected to be transformed into a business paradise fostering economic growth and placing the country on the international map.
A large turnout is expected from the Diaspora, as persons from across the world have been indicating their interest in celebrating the Golden Jubilee through “Reflection, Celebration and Inspiration”.
