[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 27 – year – old resident of Ogle Street, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara was yesterday remanded to prison on two counts of robbery under arms.

Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry, Corwin Heywood pleaded not guilty to both charges. The first allegation stated that on May 22 at Shell Gas station, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, being armed with a gun, he robbed Krishna Persaud of one Nokia cellular phone and cash $5,000.

The second charge alleged that on the same day at Shell Gas station, he also used the said weapon to rob Narindra Ramnauth of an Alcatel cellular phone and one Samsung cellular, along with $500,000 cash belonging to Rayad Hussain.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the Court that Ramnauth is an employee of Shell Gas station and Persaud was a costumer, when on the day in question, Ramnauth was checking the sales when the defendant held him at gun point and robbed them.

Grant noted that Persaud, who was a costumer in the supermarket market section, was also held at gun point and robbed of the items mentioned in the first charge.

The Prosecutor objected to bail stating the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence and that a firearm was used. The matter was transferred to Vreed-en-Hoop Court for October 30.
