Businesswoman charged with trafficking females; granted $1M bail

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 44 – year – old businesswoman of Charity, Upper Pomeroon, was granted $1M bail on two charges of trafficking in persons.

June Ann Joseph pleaded not guilty to both charges before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry. The Court heard that between January 19 and February 02 at Kaimo, Cuyuni River, she recruited and transported two females for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, did not reveal the facts in Court nor did he object to bail; he however asked that bail be in a substantial amount.

The businesswoman was ordered to report to the Charity Police Station every Monday, until the completion of the matter, which was adjourned to February 09.
