Businessman granted $100,000 bail for robbery underarms

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 42-year-old businessman of Enterprise Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara was placed on $100,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, after he was charged with the offense of robbery under arms.

Shermon Edmondson denied the allegation which stated that on Wednesday, November 20 at Flats Matthews Ridge, North West District he armed himself with a cutlass and robbed Wilson Hinds of $16,000.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that the victim and the defendant are known to each other.

Mangru said that on the day in question the defendant placed the cutlass to the victim’s neck and demanded his money. He made good his escape and the matter was reported to the police.

Attorney-at-Law, Paul Fung-A-Fat represented the defendant and told the court that his client never had any brushes with the law. He said that Edmondson asked the virtual complainant for $16,000 to pay for his flight from Matthews Ridge. The matter was transferred to the Mathews Ridge Magistrate’s Court for February 3.
