Police in Regional Division # 2 are investigating an incident which occurred on Tuesday February 10, 2026 about 13:30hrs along the Lima Public Road, Essequibo Coast, during a traffic enforcement exercise.
During the operation, ranks observed a minibus parked along the eastern side of the roadway with twenty (20) school-aged passengers inside. Upon approaching the vehicle, ranks observed what appeared to be alcoholic beverages within the bus.
The driver was instructed to proceed to the Anna Regina Police Station, where the bus was searched in the presence of relevant authorities. Several bottles suspected to contain alcoholic beverages, along with other items, were discovered inside the vehicle.
The students were handed over to a Child Care Officer for further intervention.
The driver was arrested and remains in custody.
The minibus has been lodged and investigations are ongoing.
