[www.inewsguyana.com] – The People’s Progressive Party says it has taken note of the “comical and nonsensical statement made by Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkhan that local government elections will be held in November 2015.

According to General Secretary, Clement Rohee, “Mr. Bulkan needs to have his head examined. He is fully aware of the reality that local government elections cannot be held in this year.”

Rohee told a news conference at Freedom House on Tuesday, July 07 that the Minister is “throwing dust in the eyes of the electorate by making them believe that the APNU/AFC coalition administration is sticking to its first hundred days commitment by holding local government elections before the end of the year.”

But according to the PPP, “through a slight of hand arrangement the coalition will attempt to fool the people by telling them that while they want local government elections this year as was promised it could not proceed because GECOM is not ready and fully prepared to do so.”

“The PPP wishes to state that with the 2015 budget calculated to be presented in August and considering all the implications for the annual Parliamentary recess, the Nation should be expecting the elections to be held in the second half of the next year.”

Rohee said compounding the situation further is the need for GECOM to finalize the boundaries of each of the 71 NDCs and to ensure that the electors in each of the legally demarcated NDCs are properly registered to vote.

“In addition, there are certain non-assented bills that must be brought back to the National Assembly for passage. Then there is the preparation of over five hundred digital ballot papers for each of the six municipalities that must be printed not to mention those for the seventy one NDC’S. All of this is contingent on information provided to GECOM as regards the candidates contesting the elections in the municipalities and the NDC’s.”

Rohee said the PPP is ready to contest these elections as provided for in the new laws whenever enacted. However, he restated the Party’s position as regards contesting any elections with Dr Steve Surujbally still ensconced as Chairman of GECOM.

“He cannot be trusted,” Rohee said.

  1. I do not hand out respect to those who do engender same. This is not a respectable individual. Case in point. HIS MIDDLE FINGER to the public on election day. How can anyone in his or her right mind respect rohee. Be my guest SLY. Believe me I was being kind. Had more to say about him.

  2. Rohee needs to sit down snd shut up…. His stupid snd unintelligent comments make no sense…. Looks like his twist mouth suffered a stroke with all his lies and stupid comments

  3. Please explain in as many words as you choose, why Mr. Surujballi cannot be trusted. He was trusted all these years by all. He was washed very clean in the “canals” and his history is very good. Convince all as to why he cannot be trusted.

  4. The next two months will prove whether Bulkan will be able to hold elections in four months or if he is only trying to fool the public. Maybe it would be good to wait and see and give him a chance to prove himself.

  5. Claudeson, your comment is a reflection of how uncouth you are. Guyanese would say, ”he nah gat training” or would ask, ”Ah dah wah you mumma send yuh ah school fah? ‘
That’s exactly what you don’t have, manners. If you need to make a comment on the news, just stick to it. Mr Rohee is a very experienced politician and a senior statesman who has served his country with distinction at various levels. What have you done for your country?
Have some respect. No wonder the Peeping Tom is perturbed about the loss of respect and good manners and dedicated one of his columns to it. It’s because of people like you and the trash you wrote; worse than street talk.
Read Dwayne’s comment. Although I do not share his opinion, I do respect his contribution. Am surprised inews allow yours to pass the moderators..

  6. Many, many Guyanese desire the holding of Local Government Elections THIS YEAR. Guyanese at the Local Government level, have observed coups taking place in many, many towns and other communities. And even though there wasn’t the removal of the Georgetown Mayor and City Council, there WAS a coup, with the installation of that Sooba woman who wielded more power than the Mayor and City Council members, until she was kicked to the curb after the May 11, 2015 General & Regional Elections. HOLD LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS NOW.

  7. Yep he definitely cannot ‘be trusted; to sell out the elections in favor of the PPP nor take instructions from the PPP concerning how the elections should be manipulated. They are correct… he definitely cannot be trusted.

  8. As I said before, the problem is not the holding of elections, but the holding of free , fair, and transparent elections that can withstand scrutiny from any quarter. We must avoid the problems of 2015 at all costs. We must once and for all put an end to electoral fraud and allegations of electoral fraud. First , Surujbally must go ,he doesn’t enjoy the confidence of a sizable part of the electorate. He is too arrogant, knows it all , does it all ” MY WAY” ,and cares not to address the concerns of those whom he does not fear. Next, the biographics of eligible voters should be stored electronically and video cameras installed at every polling station to monitor for ineligible voting and multiple voting. The counting at polling stations and at Gecom Head Office should be video recorded to ensure fairness and honesty. Those found of committing electoral offences should be jailed, like the Guyanese woman who was jailed in one of the islands for simply taking a photograph of her own ballot paper. Any better suggestions ? Gecom should invite Guyanese to send them in.

  9. “He Cannot be trusted” Rohee said.
Prior to 2011, the PPPC promised LGE; nothing resulted. In the PPPC 2011 manifesto they promised LGE within 12 months; no LGE held. Can Rohee (and the rest of PPP) be trusted? In October 2013, Ganga Persaud, then minister with this portfolio, promised LGE by mid 2014; no LGE held. Can Rohee (and the rest of PPP) be trusted. In the PPPC 2015 manifesto LGE was promised AGAIN within 13 months. They wanted people to trust them. The new government has made their FIRST promise that by the end of this year we have LGE and Rohee asserts that Bulkhan, the new minister, “needs his head examined”.
It seems like a sudden wave of fresh knowledge and morals has blown on Rohee. Rohee and the PPP know of a long list of things that must be done before LGE. Why, during the last 23 years, they did not target the items on this list.

  10. This big head fool should just shut up and be quiet. Did he push his party to hold local government elections after numerous promises to do so. Big head rohee why don’t you engage your brain before opening your fool mouth. Its called EBBOM”Engage brain before opening mouth” But then again you may not have a brain.
