Two businessmen- who are brothers- were on Tuesday morning robbed of an undisclosed sum of cash and physically assaulted by two armed bandits at their Number 2 Canal, West Bank Demerara home (WBD).

The victims have been identified as Himkarran Sundhat, 29, and Rabindra Sundhat, 31, of Alliance, Canal No. 2, WBD.

According to information received from Police “D” Division Commander, Rishi Das, the incident occurred at about 02:00hrs.

Das related to INews that one of the brothers claimed that he was sleeping in a hammock alongside the one flat concrete home, where he resided, when he was abruptly awoken by two men, who were both pointing their handguns at him.

The perpetrators then took the man inside of the house, where they proceeded to demand that he turn over his cash.

Police reported that according to the victim, he turned over the money.

However, as the bandits turned their backs, the Sundhat brothers pounced and a brief scuffle ensued.

The bandits were allegedly injured during the fight, but managed to hit the brothers across their heads before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.

INews was told that at the time of the robbery, the victims’ bed ridden mother, their father and sister were present.

However, the suspects did not interfere with them.

Investigations are ongoing. (Ramona Luthi)
