Clevon Hamilton a.k.a “Quarter” was moments ago charged for murdering his “Child mother” Simone Hackett, whose partially decomposed body was found in a trench on Tuesday, last, with her throat slit and wounds to her neck.
Hamilton, a gold miner, who allegedly confessed to killing his former lover made his first appearance at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court this afternoon and was remanded to prison until May 18. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
When the woman’s body was discovered by students en route to school, police ranks began an intense investigation and evidence pointed in the direction of Hamilton.
Police in Mahdia were finally able to arrest the man after some efforts were made to locate him. He was then transported to Georgetown for further questioning with regards to the murder of Hackett.
The young mother’s body was discovered in a trench at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD) with her throat slit and stab wounds about her back and neck. A cutlass which is believed to have been the murder weapon was also found underneath her body.
Reports are that Hamilton had telephoned Hackett on the day before their son’s birthday telling the woman that he sent a package for her and their son with a friend of his by the name of “Dexter”.
Hackett left her home around 20:00hrs on Saturday last with the intention of returning soon, but she mysteriously vanished. Telephone calls, text messages and whatsapp messages to the young mother’s cellular phone went unanswered.
Hackett’s family opined that Hamilton orchestrated her disappearance and murder due to the fact that he and the woman were experiencing a dispute over the custody of their young son.
Relatives of the dead woman stated that the child’s father had allegedly made threatening remarks to Hackett’s life one week before her disappearance and murder.
Hackett was also supposed to have attended her sister’s wedding as her Maid of Honor. The wedding was supposed to be on Sunday, the same day that Hackett’s son celebrated his third birthday.
