[www.inewsguyana.com] – The body of one of the four missing fishermen floated ashore this evening at the Mahaica Foreshore.
The body has been identified as that of Andrew Goopie. The Guyana Police Force may be forced to turn their attention to the Captain of the vessel which was reportedly attacked by pirates last week.
The Captain initially told investigators that the pirate attack occurred in Suriname. Goopie’s body was found not too far from where the vessel was also recovered after the pirate attack.
iNews was reliably informed that the relatives of all the missing men formed a search party and decided to search the Mahaica/ Mahaicony foreshore stumbled on the body of Hoopie.
According to information received, the police are now looking to question the Captain who is still in Suriname. He told investigators that they were attacked in Suriname and the pirates tied, beat and chopped the other four crewmembers before throwing them overboard.
He also said that the vessel was left in Suriname waters after the incident and incidentally the vessel was seen drifting along the Mahaica/ Mahaicony foreshore earlier this week and it was moored at Mon Repos.
Investigators questioned how the vessel managed to drift from Suriname to Guyana in the rough waters.
