[www.inewsguyan.com] – Skipper Darren Sammy played a daring game of Russian roulette against the Australians’ today to keep the West Indies semi final hopes alive in the World Twenty20 Championship.

Sammy slammed 34 not out from 13 balls as the defending champions chased down a challenging 179 to post their highest ever successful chase in T20s with two balls to spare.

One-day captain Dwayne Bravo assisted with 27 from 12 deliveries, to pull the Caribbean side around from 130 for four in the 17th over.

Opener Chris Gayle understood the defending champion’s plight and brought on the ‘beast’ mode, clobbering 53 off 35 balls.

Sammy came to the floor when the side needed 31 from the last two overs and whipped Mitchell Starc for19 runs before badgering James Faulkner for consecutive 6’s.

Earlier Windies as spinners Sunil Narine (2-19) and Marlon Samuels (2-20), along Samuel Badree (2-37) all held off the ferocious Aussie batting line up.

Glenn Maxwell top scored with 45 from 22 balls while Brad Hodge got 35 off 26 deliveries much to the delight of the defending champions.

They will play Pakistan on Tuesday.
