Bernard DaSilva charged for threatening behaviour, damage to property

[www.inewsguyana.com] – An optometrist of DaSilva House of Optics appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday, January 16 charged with threatening behaviour and damage to property.

Thirty – year – old Bernard DaSilva of Middle Street North Cummingsburg, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on Wednesday, January 15 at Middle Street, Georgetown he behaved in a threatening manner to Devika Singh DaSilva.

The man, however pleaded guilty to the offence of damage to property, which stated that on the same day, he unlawfully and maliciously damaged one Dell Laptop computer and four car tyres, a total loss of $263,000, belonging to the virtual complainant (VC).

Police Prosecutor, Dinero Jones told the Court that the defendant and VC are husband and wife, but separated two months ago because of his infidelity.

The Court heard that they have a two – year – old daughter together and that the defendant visits the child at the home.

The Court heard that on the day in question, the VC went out with her cousin and when she returned home and parked her car, the accused demanded that she come out of the car.

According to the Prosecutor, the VC did not adhere to the demand, since the accused allegedly had a knife in his hand. It is alleged that he used the said knife and punctured the car tyres, after which he took the VC’s laptop and threw it in the gutter.

Meanwhile, the accused told the Court that he would like to compensate his wife for the loss and did not intend to threaten her.

For the damage to property offence, he was ordered to compensate the woman $263,000 and was placed on $5,000 bail for the threatening behavior. They were both bonded to keep the peace for 12 months and the case was put off for February 7.
