Bermudian drug mule busted at CJIA jailed, fined $1.4M

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Bermudian woman, who ingested cocaine pellets to smuggle them to the United States was on Tuesday, January 27 sentenced to four years imprisonment after confessing to the crime.

Njere Fublar, 23, of Lot 64 Roberts Avenue, HM 15, Bermuda admitted to ingesting a total of 551 grammes of cocaine when she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Following her guilty plea, the remorseful woman told the Magistrate that she has no local address and is self-employed. According to Fublar, she “fixes and sells electronics”.

Recapping the events that led to her arrest, Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones said that on January 24, Fublar was an outgoing passenger on a Caribbean Airlines (CAL) flight BW524 destined for the John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport.

He said that as the 23-year-old was going through a check point around 05:00 hours that morning, a rank who noticed she was acting in a suspicious manner requested to conduct a search of her luggage.

It was then that a suspicious looking pellet was found in her purse. Upon further examination, it was discovered that the pellet contained the illicit substance.

After being interrogated, she reportedly admitted to swallowing the pills. Fublar was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was given a laxative to assist in her excreting the drug.

The Court heard that she there was a total of 68 pellets. Fublar was later taken to the Headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) where the drug was weighed and she was subsequently charged.

The Bermudian woman was sentenced to serve four years in prison and fined $1,480,700 – three times the street value of the drug.

  2. I know this young lady and although I certainly do not condone her action my heart truly goes out to her at this time. There for the grace of god go I…. The really thing I find so troublesome in these situations is that the real criminals are still out there living life while venerable individuals such as Njere are left to pick up the pieces. Some may not agree with this statement and I believe she must be held accountable for her actions , But lets not loose sight of the fact that this young lady and others like her are victims of the cruel and unfair world we live in… May god keep his hand on her heart and remind her that tomorrow can be much brighter if she chooses it to be..People of Guyana please watch over my fellow country man as we would do yours as she is in your care.

  3. a ship carrying drugs with a street value of over 1bn dollars was let go with 12 people on board was fined 12mn dollars without a bird spending any amount of time in jail.

    this woman will lose 4 year of her life for the same type of drugs amounting to a smidgen [ 551grams ] of what was found on the ship [198 kilos ]and fined three time the amount of the street value of the drugs.

    the ship has gone already with its crew free to plan their next pickup and delivery just minutes after leaving port.

    this is how the wheel of justice turns in guyana.
