A 52-year-old Berbice woman is now dead after the motorcar she was travelling in, on Monday morning, collided into a parked motor lorry on the Number 58 Village public road, Corentyne, Berbice.

Dead is Soorajine Surjrha of Grant 1805 Crabwood Creek, Berbice.

According to information received, the accident occurred at around 07:20hrs.

INews understands that the vehicle was driven by a 25-year-old male and two pensioners [70-year-old and 60-year-old] were also in the vehicle with Surjrha.

Surjrha died on the spot while the other passengers received minor injuries.

It is believed that while travelling east on the southern carriageway of the road, the driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, resulting in him losing control of the motorcar which subsequently crashed into a lorry parked on the eastern side parapet.

The driver of the motorcar is presently receiving treatment at the Skeldon Hospital, under police guard.
