A 60-year-old businessman of Belvedere Village, Corentyne, Berbice was last evening attacked and robbed by two armed bandits at his home.

The businessman was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash, two Samsung Galaxy tablets valued $100,000, one bluetooth Automatic box valued $60,000, a quantity of Digicel and GTT phone cards, and several personal documents.

The man had just concluded his daily business and was heading home in his van.

At around 19:18h, he pulled up on his bridge and exited the vehicle to open the gate, when he was confronted by the gunmen.

The businessman hesitated to hand over his valuables to the bandits, causing them to beat him about his body with their guns.

One of the bandits then held onto the victim while the other went into the van and removed a bag which contained the valuables.

The perpetrators then escaped on two bicycles.

The victim was later escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who treated and sent him away.

Investigations are ongoing.
