A single mother of four is happy to be alive after being attacked last evening while making her way home from work.

35-year-old Pauline Clark was attacked by two armed teenagers at First Street, Non-Pariel, East Coast Demerara around 7:30pm.

The victim’s mother is People’s Progressive Party Member of Parliament Gillian Burton. Burton reported that she heard loud screams at head of her street and subsequently alerted her son and neighbours who responded immediately.

They subsequently recognized that it was Burton’s daughter who was been attacked and robbed in the street.

“They cuffed her in the face and kicked her about her body but not before choking her and terrorizing her in order to steal her valuables”, the MP related when contacted by Inews earlier today.

She explained that Clark’s brother and other neighbors gave chase to the bandits but only managed to apprehend one of them. He has been identified as a 17-year-old from Melanie, East Coast Demerara.

“When we called the Police said that they did not have any patrols and was trying to get a vehicle to come to the scene of the attack and robbery. We ended up taking the young man into the Station at Vigilance”, Burton related.

Burton said her daughter is physically and emotionally traumatized by the incident and was due to return to the hospital to conduct a medical examination which will be submitted to the police.

The other bandit managed to escape with Clark’s handbag which contained an undisclosed sum of cash, cellphone, jewellery and other documents.

Police are continuing their investigations.
