Bandit arrested hours after robbing Mahaicony couple

Swift action by ranks of the Guyana Police Force’s East Coast Demerara Division on Sunday evening resulted in the apprehension of a bandit, with his firearm and most of the items he had stolen, which were still in his possession.

Based on information received, at around 23:00hrs on Sunday, a couple residing at Burma, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara were relaxing under a benab at a popular fun park at Mahaicony, when a lone armed bandit pounced upon and relieved them of their cellular phones, cash and other valuables. The bandit reportedly fled the scene.

The victims quickly made their way to the Mahaicony Police Station where the matter was reported. 

It was shortly after that ranks, acting on information received, caught up with the suspect at Recess Public Road, Mahaicony. He was later positively identified by his victims.

Police retrieved the stolen items, minus the cash along with an unlicensed 9MM Glock Pistol and nine (9) live matching rounds.

The thirty-year old unemployed Calcutta, Mahaicony suspect, is being processed for court.

A ballistic test is being conducted on the firearm to determine if it was used in the commission of any previous crime.
