Badminton rewards successful players

image[www.inewsguyana.com] – Top players in the sport of badminton were presented with their winning prizes for the recently concluded the NSC Annual Age Group Singles Tournament.

During the presentation of the trophies, President of the GBA Gokaran Ramdhani commended the players for the hard work done and urged them to propel the sport forward.

He recommended that they continue working hard and training as there will be opportunities to excel even further and possibly on the Caribbean stage.

Meanwhile, the under-11 boys singles was won by Elan Ramhaman while Vikash Mootoo was second and Omar Samad while the distaff end saw the 1-2-3 as Sarah Samad, Jayde dasilva and Reanna Persaud.

The under 13 males was won by Rahaman again as he held off Tyreese Richards while the female category saw Priyanna Ramdhani on top.

Hemraj Beharry was winner in the under 15 division while Ramdhani again returned for the ladies to cart off the trophy. Narayan Ramdhani beat Jonathan Mangra in the under 17 males division while Ambika Ramraj had to settle for second against the female Ramdhani.

The Under 19 Division in the male category saw Omar Abdelbari & Noel Shewjattan tie for second place ahead of Mangra and Ramdhani.

The Guyana Badminton Association will be attending the Suriname International Easter Tournament during the Easter Weekend and the players will take part in the Under-15 & 19 Singles, Doubles & Mixed Doubles with some Senior Players taking part in the Invitational Singles.

Last year at this Championship, Guyana brought home eight medals.
