The revolver, ammo and a spent shell recovered by the police

A suspect who opened fire on law enforcement officers on Wednesday was shot to the left shoulder by one of the ranks who returned fire.

According to information from the police, ranks of a mobile patrol around 15:00h observed the suspicious movement of a motorcar in the city, and followed it into Princess Street where two occupants exited with handguns and proceeded into a yard.

INews understands that the two ranks went in pursuit of the men while the vehicle continued into Norton and Chapel streets and another armed male exited.

He too was pursued by two other ranks and in the process he discharged his weapon at the ranks who returned fire from their Service weapons and struck him in the upper left shoulder.

The police detailed that a .357 revolver with four live rounds and one spent shell was retrieved from the 21-year-old suspect who reportedly hails from Albert Street, Queenstown and who is presently in a stable condition at a city hospital under guard.

The other armed suspects who reportedly escaped from the police are currently being hunted, while the vehicle which was left abandoned is in police custody.

Investigation are in progress.
