AFC/APNU Leaders: Khemraj Ramjattan and David Granger

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Alliance for Change (AFC) Leader Khemraj Ramjattan has revealed to iNews that A Partnership For National Unity/ Alliance For Change (APNU/AFC) coalition will be launching its manifesto very soon.

Ramjattan in an interview told iNews on Thursday “that it will be soon, they are tidying it up and it will be in about a week in so.”

The AFC Leader explained that the manifesto has some “appealing ideas” for Guyana’s youth populace. He also said that by large it is a revision of the 2011 manifesto of both the AFC and the APNU.

“It is going to be a revision of what we have stated in 2011 because most of what we had stated in 2011 is still applicable today,” said Ramjattan.

He said the fact that the two parties have decided to contest the May 11 polls under one umbrella had delayed the release of the manifesto.

On January 27, President Donald Ramotar signed the formal proclamation declaring May 11, 2015 as the date for General and Regional elections in Guyana and will be soon gazetted as stipulated by the Constitution.

The Head of State said that the date was chosen, based on the available dates that the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) provided, by which it would be ready to conduct the polls.

President Ramotar prorogued Parliament on November 10, 2014 ahead of a debate on a No – Confidence motion brought against his administration; saying it was to facilitate dialogue between the Executive and the parliamentary opposition.

The Opposition has refused to engage the government and the President had subsequently committed to dissolving Parliament and calling fresh elections ahead of its 2016 due date.
