[www.inewsguyana.com] –A Partnership For National Unity (APNU) says that if it is elected to government along with the Alliance For Change (AFC) post May 11, will investigate the circumstances surrounding the assassination of former Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) Agriculture Minister Satyadeo Sawh and slain political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing.

On April 22, 2006 Sawh, his sister, Phulmattie Persaud; brother, Rajpat Rai Sawh and security guard Curtis Robertson were killed in an attack on Sawh’s home in La Bonne Intention (LBI) on the East Coast of Demerara.

The announcement was made at an APNU press briefing on Friday, March 20 where the Party sought to highlight the amount of extra-judicial killings that have gone unsolved in Guyana during the 22 year rule of the PPP.

“We had a number of extra judicial killings in this country and the Minister who has responsibility for public security in this country failed to act,” said APNU Member Annette Ferguson.

According to the politician, a motion that was tabled in the National Assembly by Opposition Leader David Granger encompasses the death of the former Government Minister hence his death will be one of those that is guaranteed a thorough investigation.

The comments were made shortly after the APNU vowed to deliver a thorough investigation to determine who is responsible for the death of political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing.

APNU Member, Basil Williams pointed out that the circumstances surrounding the death of Crum-Ewing adopt the “hue of a political assassination.”

“The implications of his killings are manifold; his constitutional right to demonstrate peacefully, speak freely, move freely, to belong to a political party; his right to life and to the protection of the law, have all been impugned by this cowardly act,” said Williams.

He said the killing affirms that “we live in a failed and lawless country.” Crum – Ewing was gunned down on March 10 in Third Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
