APNU chides Gov’t for postponing sitting of Nat’l Assembly

A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has condemned the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) for what it alleged is the unilateral postponement of the sitting of the National Assembly today, Thursday July 25 to August.

In a statement issued last evening, the opposition political party stated, “This has happened before. This continued contempt that the government side has displayed towards the majority opposition exposes the Executive’s failure to recognize the separation of powers especially between the Legislative and Executive branches of government.”

APNU feels that the PPPC is not interested or committed to debating the four Local Government Bills that are before the House.

According to APNU, “The Peoples Progressive Party Civic has shown by its action that they are prepared to hold the local government bills hostage. This unilateral action taken by the government side has done grave damage to the tripartite consultative process.”
