Jewan Persaud was on Wednesday placed on $25,000 bail following a simple larceny charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Persaud accepted the allegation which stated that on January 5 at Georgetown, he stole two bottles of body lotion and one bottle of shampoo, all to a total value of $5,741.

The accused related that on the day in question, he bought the items from a man who was selling them on the pavement in the city. He claimed that he subsequently went to Bounty Supermarket to purchase a packet of chowmein and was apprehended and searched by security guards, who claimed that the items belonged to the supermarket.

Police Prosecutor Gillian Simmons made no objections to bail nor did she reveal the particulars surrounding the charge. She, however, revealed that the items which belong to the supermarket were found in the possession of the accused and are currently lodged with the Police. As such, a not guilty plea was entered on behalf of the accused and bail was granted in the sum of $25,000.

The case will continue on January 28.
