Alleged robbery/murder of Westminster man, Police reviewing CCTV footage of area

Police are currently investigating the alleged robbery and murder of 37-year-old Ron Mansfield, a phone card vendor of lot 772 Westminster, West Bank Demerara (WBD) that occurred on Tuesday night.

According to the dead man’s wife, Anthea Mansfield, her husband left home on Tuesday to sell phone cards and about 20:20h, while she was in the kitchen area of their home, she heard the sound of his motorcycle and as such, she assumed he returned home.

However, a short while after the woman said he heard a loud explosion, which sounded like a gunshot, and fearing the worst she rushed to the front of the home where he reportedly saw “a slim built male running, heading west through a bushy play field.”

The woman then related that she then saw her husband’s motorcycle before seeing his motionless body about 20 feet from same.

She immediately rushed him to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to information from the police, Mansfield’s body was examined and was found with what appeared to be a bullet wound. However, no spent shell was recovered from the area.

Moreover, his bag containing his phone cards and money were missing.

INews was informed that officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage of the area as investigations are ongoing.
