Commander of ‘B’ Division Brian Joseph acted immediately on information received that the elderly man was about to board a flight at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport for the United States.

Another man, aged 23, has also been arrested in connection with the rape of the two girls and remains in custody as investigations continue.

Reports indicate that the two girls, aged 12 and 15, were sexually abused by the men over a period of several months.

The Commander told iNews that the file will be taken by his ranks to the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice on the way forward in this matter.

According to Joseph, Police will explore approaching the High Court for an extension to keep the men in custody since one of the accused attempted to flee.
