Alleged arsonist remanded to prison

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Dwayne Jones, 19 of Waruni Village, Berbice River, accused  of setting fire to a building was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on March 23 at Waruni Village, he set fire to his mother’s kitchen.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that around 17:30 hrs the defendant consumed alcohol and went home. After an argument developed between Jones and his mother, he lit a kerosene stove and threw it to the ground, resulting in the fire.

Bail was refused and the matter was transferred to Kwakwani Court for April 14.
