Albouystown man remanded on armed robbery charge

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Labourer of Albouystown, Georgetown, was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a robbery under arms charge.

Ershad Bacchus pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on March 06, at Albouystown, being in the company of another armed with a knife, he robbed Antwan Nauth of a $200,000 Jailing 110 motorcycle.

Police prosecutor Bharrat Mangru told the Court that both parties are known to each other and on the day in question about 03:00 hrs, Nauth was heading home, when Bacchus and others approached him.

The Court heard that Nauth was stabbed several times about his body and the perpetrators made good their escape with his motorcycle. The victim was discharge after receiving medical attention from the hospital on March 07, after which he identified Bacchus to the police.

The Prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence along with the nature and penalty attached to the charge.

Bail was refused and the matter was transferred before Magistrate Judy Latchman for March 30.
