$50,000 bail for man found with forged currency

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 58 – year – old self employed man was ordered to post $50,000 bail by Magistrate Fabayo Azore for unlawful possession of forged currency.

Delbert Leitch pleaded not guilty to the offence, which alleged that on May 8 at America Street, he had in his possession five forged $1,000 bill, knowing same to be forged.

IMG_20140512_163947Assistant Superintendant of Police (ASP) Deneshwers Maindranaught told the Court that on the day in question, Police acting on information carried out a search on the defendant. He said as a result, five forged $1000 bill were found among other bills.

The defendant was represented by Attorney – at – Law, Omeyana Hamilton, who requested reasonable bail for her client.

She told the Court that Leitch was given $US50, and upon conversion, he received the forged notes.

Bail was granted and the case was postponed to June 12.
