In Budget 2022, the University of Guyana is poised to benefit from $3.5 billion towards the operation of its campuses and expansion of its course offerings for online and in-person classes to its 11,000 students.

Additionally, to ensure even wider access to tertiary education, the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) programme offered 6,000 online scholarships in keeping with President Dr Irfaan Ali’s mandate to accelerate the development of the country’s human capital.

“This exceeded our target of 4,500 due to the overwhelming response by the public to this initiative,” Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh explained.

As such, he said in 2022, an amount of $1.3 billion is budgeted to meet the cost of another 4,500 scholarships as well as 2,726 continuing students.
