Police in Bartica on Saturday afternoon arrested a 26-year-old woman after she was found in possession of 328 grams of cannabis during a sting operation.
This occurred sometime around 13:30h.
According to police reports, a supervisor from a jet boat service went to Bartica Police Station with a sealed cardboard box and indicated to detectives that he suspects it to contain narcotics.
The box was then opened by ranks who found a quantity of suspected cannabis wrapped in a transparent plastic was found concealed in a jacket amongst food items.
The supervisor informed the police that the package was intended to be delivered to a male at Issano Landing but he was instructed to deliver it to the mentioned suspect.
Acting on the information, an operation was set up and a package was delivered to the suspect.
As such, the suspect was confronted by police where a search was conducted on her person and the package where a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was found.
The suspect was told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and was escorted to the Bartica Police Station where the suspected cannabis was weighed in her presence and amounted to 328 grams.
As such, she was placed in custody as the investigation continues.
