24 – Year – old charged with Murder/Robbery of Pike Street Businessman

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – Four – year – old Travis Mc Dougall of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown was today charged with the murder of 43 – year – old Businessman, Ashook Raghu, who was gunned down on August 18 outside the Botanical Gardens on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown.

The young man was not required to plead to the indictable offence before Magistrate Fabayo Azore. The dead man’s wife, Shyrazadi Raghu was also shot in her thigh during the robbery, as the perpetrators also robbed them of $4M. the couple lived in Pike Street, Campbellville Georgetown.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question around 13:00 hrs, the deceased and his wife were in motor car PGG 8291 along Vlissengen road, at the Traffic Light, which was on ‘red’ at the time.

Subsequently, the defendant and another rode up with a Honda CG motorcycle to the driver’s side of the vehicle and shot Raghu to his chest.

They then shot the man’s wife after she refused to let go of the bag containing the money, before escaping.

According to the Prosecutor, Mc Dougall was positively identified at the Brickdam Police by Raghu’s wife.

He was represented by Attorney – at – law, Kendacie Rodney, who told the Court that the Detectives [name provided] used an Electrical Taser on her client.

The lawyer requested a medical report for Mc Dougall. He was remanded to prison and will return to Court on October 6 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
