[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – three – year Leroy Daniels appeared brought before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, charged with slapping his common law wife in a drunken rage.
The young man admitted that on Sunday April 26, at North East La Penitence, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Juliet Deonarine. According to the prosecution, Daniels accused Deonarine of stealing $16,000 from him. After she denied his accusation, he became annoyed and slapped her.
In his defense he told the court that he came home with the money in his pocket, and went in the bathroom. After coming out from the bathroom, he discovered that the money was missing.
Daniels also lamented that he was already angry with his wife, since he did not believe she was pregnant with his son.
After careful consideration, the Chief Magistrate ordered him to seek counseling. She asserted after she receives the report from the counselor, she will rule on the matter.
Daniels was placed on his own recognizance and the matter was adjourned to June 01.
