2 killed, 1 critical after car slams into concrete fence

Two young men were on Sunday evening killed while another is critical after the car in which they were travelling crashed into a concrete fence at Bogotstown, Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Dead are 29-year-old Courtney Marcus of Lot 11 Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara and Ronaldo Simmons, 20, of Lot 15 Azore Street, Peter’s Hall EBD. The injured man has been identified as the driver of the car, Steven Roberts, 29, of Lot 387 Mac David Street, Republic Park, EBD.

Based on reports received, motorcar bearing registration number PVV 7570 was heading south along the Bagotstown Public Road at a fast rate of speed when the right-side front of the vehicle collided with the concrete median.

As a result, Roberts lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete fence and subsequently slammed into a utility pole.

The driver and occupants who received severe injuries about their bodies were taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious state by public spirited citizens and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Marcus and Simmons were pronounced dead on arrival.

Roberts was treated and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted a patient suffering from a punctured right lung, broken ribs and severe head injuries.

It is unclear where the men were coming from at that time taking into consideration of the 18:00h curfew that is in effect.
