2 dead as motorbike, car collide on railway embankment

An ex-policeman and his partner met an untimely demise following an accident at Cummings Lodge on the railway line embankment earlier this morning.

Dead is 38-year-old Malcom Ross called Shabba and his  20-year-old girlfriend Jewel Pestran of Bel Air Street, Albouystown.

Based on reports received, the couple were returning home after celebrating the woman’s birthday when they met their demise.

INews understands that at around 02:30hrs, motor vehicle, HC 4097, driven by 25-year- old Mark Cameron, was proceeding east along the northern side of the Cummings Lodge railway embankment on the East Coast Demerara, while motorcycle CE 9653 driven by Ross was proceeding west along the northern side of the road, also at a fast rate, when the two collided.

It is reported that Cameron was driving without lights making his vehicle difficult to see when the accident occurred.

As a result of the impact, pillion rider, Pestran, was flung from the bike and onto the road where she sustained multiple injuries.

She along with Ross were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival while she succumbed to her injuries at around 05:10hrs this morning while receiving treatment.

The driver was of the car was said to be intoxicated and is in Police custody assisting with investigations.
